What is a Celebrant?
Ceremony and ritual exist in all religions and cultures, are observed by all people, and are ingrained into our daily lives. Whether it is swearing on the bible in a courtroom, or jumping over a broomstick at a wedding, we are all participants in myriad rituals.
If you are Christian, you may cross yourself as your approach the altar. Jews kiss the mezuzah as they cross a threshold. Even atheists have certain rituals which bring them comfort. When a baby is born, all cultures have some type of ceremony marking this joyous occasion. Of course, ceremony also marks the happiest and saddest of our experience in the form of weddings and funerals.
Perhaps the most common ceremonies are weddings and funerals, but there are many others. They mark all manner of lifecycle milestones:
Baby welcoming brings family and friends together in joy and love
A new job or business
A promotion
A new home
Saying farewell to a home we have lived in for many years
For many, a divorce is a reason for celebration of new found freedom
With all of these, there are personal, family and religious rituals which may be incorporated into the ceremony. My role is to help you incorporate all those individual rituals and observances into a cohesive and unique ceremony that is not only what you want, but is a distinct presentation of who you are.
